The Lord, Creator of Mankind – Poem

The Lord, Creator of mankind,
The Maker of the universe,
He made the sun, the earth to light,
The moon and stars to rule by night;
And when I climb the mountains high
Or gaze upon the oceans deep,
God’s wondrous works towards men display
His beauty in an awesome way.

When walking through the golden fields
Or treading through the forests grand,
I never cease to hear the cry
Of trees, of plants, of birds that fly,
How God, the Maker of them all
Is righteous and omnipotent;
How God is just and cannot lie,
And without Him we all would die.

And then I think of mankind’s sin,
How hopeless all have come to be;
For all have broken God’s own law,
There is not one without a flaw;
And God Himself must judge our sin,
Condemning man to death in hell,
For God is pure in holiness;
In our own strength we are hopeless.

But wait! There is a substitute:
For God’s own Son has come to die
And rise again on the third day;
He will forgive all those who pray
To God in humble brokenness;
For Christ’s own blood was shed for us
On Calv’ry’s ugly, rough-hewn tree,
That all who trust Him may be free.

“Repent and live,” the Lord now calls
To all in Adam’s helpless race;
“Repent; confess your sins to Me!”
“Believe, and I will set you free;”
So do not spurn His call to you,
Believe and hearken to His plea;
The Lord will kindly take your place,
He’ll grant to you His priceless grace.

So looking at the stars above,
And pondering the heav’nly dome,
