The Gospel – the Good News – of Jesus Christ

God our Creator is holy, righteous and just.

“For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.” Psalm 11:7

“Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness” Psalm 45:7a

Man is separated from God because of his sin and depravity, and is deserving of hell.

“But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” Isaiah 64:6

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” Romans 1:18

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one” Romans 3:10

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” Hebrews 9:27

How can God be just and yet justify the wicked? God demonstrated His love to us by sending His Son Jesus to die in our place and take the penalty we deserve. Jesus Christ’s perfect, righteous life and sacrificial death fully satisfied God’s holy and righteous requirements.

“For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” Titus 3:3-7

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” Romans 3:23-26

“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:5-6

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

On the third day, Christ rose again, conquering sin and death. To anyone who calls upon the Lord in repentance (a genuine recognition and confession of sin, and turning away from it), and believes on Jesus Christ by faith (trusting in Christ alone, not anything that we have done), God promises forgiveness and His gift of eternal life.

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” John 17:3

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” Acts 16:31

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest…Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:1-4, 10

When a person is saved and born again, they have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, and will live a life that reflects God’s radical work of salvation in their life.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
